Finding ways to make money with my smartphone wasn’t a surprise to anyone who knows me. I’m always talking about how it’s smart to create multiple streams of income.

I learned the hard way, but you can read more on that in my ABOUT page.

The thing is, creating multiple streams of income doesn’t mean you have to get a second job. It could be as simple as downloading several of these apps to capture receipts, surf the web or sell items you don’t use anymore.

I have earned $557.27 to date since I started using these apps and believe me; it took minimal effort.

Below I’ve posted the amounts I’ve already made in red so you can see that they are legit.

Here are 13 ways to make money with your smartphone.

Special offer: Get a $10 welcome bonus when you create your account!

Ibotta was one of the first rebate apps on the market and offers cash back on grocery, apparel, electronics, restaurant, pet, etc. purchases. The rebate amounts are relatively high (as much as $1.50) and work across many stores. Many qualifying rebates are brand-independent (e.g., $0.50 off any orange juice), while others require that you purchase a given brand at a particular store. I earned over $30 in a few short months.

This app lets you take a picture of pretty much any receipt to earn rewards points. I have redeemed my points toward Amazon gift cards, dinner- movie gift cards and retail stores. I have earned over $90 the past two years.

Receipt Hog

This is a fun app that lets you take pictures of your receipts, earn points and convert them into cash. You can cash out for Amazon gift cards, through Paypal or even get magazine subscriptions. I love receiving free spins on the slot machine, very addicting. I consistently earn $5 every six weeks at the level I’m at now.  I will make about $42 this year.

Saving Star

This app works like digital coupons, but it does not reduce your total at the checkout register. Instead, you select the offers you will be buying in the app, you scan the receipt, and the money you save is then deposited into your Paypal account. If you don’t have a PayPal account, no worries, you can redeem it through an Amazon gift card or even choose to donate the money to your favorite charity. It pays out once you reach $5.

I love this app! Shopkick is a rewards program that is available for iPhone and Android phones. Just download the app to your phone, and when you walk into your favorite stores (Walmart, Target, Macy’s, etc.), you’ll instantly earn kicks. Scan specified barcodes once you’re in the store to earn more kicks. Link up your credit card and refer your friends for even more kicks. Exchange your Kicks for gift cards from Target, Amazon, Lowes, or on items like clothing, electronics, or even AMC Theatres! Shopkick has been featured on The Huffington Post, Forbes, and The Wall Street Journal.

Walmart Savings Catcher

Shop as usual and then log in to the Walmart Savings Catcher App.  Take a picture of the QR code at the bottom of the receipt or enter the numbers.  Walmart will search the weekly ads close to where you live, and if they find a lower price, they will give you the difference back, which you can transfer to an e-Gift Card. As of today, I have earned $266.27 in two years.

Surf the Web, Watch Videos & Take Surveys

Cash Pirate

On this app, you earn points by taking quick surveys, playing games, and interacting with ads. Each completed activity gets you “coins” which you can redeem for PayPal cash after you reach a certain amount.

Google Opinions Rewards

I love this app. It pays for my book addiction. Answer quick surveys when the notification pops up, usually one to three questions, multiple choice answers.  You get Google credits, which you cash in for books, apps or toward movies.  I have earned $80.96 in the last two years.

This app is one of my favorites because I literally do nothing. Slidejoy lets you make money to unlock your lock screen!  I earn $3-$5 every month on this one.

Swagbucks, An absolute MUST, to join

Swagbucks is probably one of the most popular apps around, these days.  You can earn “SBs” by shopping, watching videos, and answering surveys–all of which you can redeem for gift cards or PayPal cash. They have paid out over $185 million to their members, so you know they’re doing something right!  I’ve been using this less than a WEEK, and I’m over half way to my gift card reward!

Sell Items You Don’t Use

BookScouter helps you sell textbooks and used books for the most money by comparing offers from over 35 book buyback vendors with a single search. With a kid in college and loads of books my self, I can’t wait to try this one out.

If you’re looking to buy or sell clothes with a more artistic flair, then this is the site for you. I’ve received a few things that were a little wild for my taste, and they’re going here. 🙂

The fastest growing mobile marketplace that lets you snap, post, chat and sell, locally.

Poshmark is a simple and fun way to buy and sell fashion. Just create an account, take pictures of designer and brand-name clothing and immediately post them for sale–in LESS than a minute. Poshmark keeps 20% of the selling price, and the rest is yours!
